Our journey to connect with this influential entrepreneur is not merely a stroke of luck but a testament to the power of preparation, opportunity, and decisive action.
In the inaugural phase of Queer Money®, DJ’s team proactively reached out to us, envisioning a collaboration between Queer Money® and their upcoming internet radio venture, KWIR Radio. Despite KWIR Radio not yet being launched, discussions with DJ paved the way for a partnership agreement. While the initial venture didn’t reach its full potential, it laid the groundwork for a more impactful collaboration.
What did flourish from our connection is a monthly column aptly titled Queer Money® within DJ’s esteemed publication, The Eagle. This collaboration not only resonates with our shared commitment to the queer community but also fosters a mutually beneficial relationship. We’re privileged to align ourselves with someone whose enthusiasm and dedication mirror our own, ensuring our collective efforts make a meaningful difference.

Have you ever found yourself abandoning something only to regret it later? DJ Doran’s journey reads like a whirlwind of entrepreneurial ventures, from piloting and hospitality to media and advertising. Despite encountering numerous setbacks along the way, DJ’s resilience remains unshaken. He views these setbacks not as failures but as invaluable lessons, turning to books whenever he needs guidance. His mantra? “If you can read, understand, and apply, you can achieve anything.”
Raised in a traditional Irish/Italian household in the Bronx, DJ grappled with the fear of coming out, fearing rejection from his family. It wasn’t until his 30s that he found the courage to embrace his true self, guided by his mother’s advice to prioritize being a good human being above all else.
Even with challenges like hearing impairment, DJ pursued his dream of becoming a pilot in the U.S. Reserves, showcasing his unwavering determination. Transitioning from military service, DJ seized upon an opportunity he overheard in a coffee shop, embarking on a transformative journey with his husband, Joe, through highs and lows in the media industry.
Despite skeptics attributing his success to luck, DJ insists he can recognize and seize opportunities that sets him apart. He emphasizes the importance of courage in taking action, urging others to silence both external and internal doubts.
